Design Culture

The shape of the cups draws inspiration fromZhang Silang’s Round Silver Tray, while the intricate patterns are derived from theWhite Glazed Floral Saucer with Stand.

This set of paired cups ingeniously combines the distinctive features and essence of two cultural relics, allowing you to savor the time-honored traditions of tea culture.

Song Dynasty · Northern Song Period

Zhang Silang’s Round Silver Trays with Cherry Blossom and Hydrangea Patterns

Two pieces from a nine-tray silver set unearthed in Jiangsu. Each tray shares identical dimensions (wide rim, shallow belly, flat base) and bears the craftsman’s mark “Zhang Silang” at the bottom.

The trays are distinguished by nine engraved floral motifs: peony, cherry, hydrangea, hollyhock, plum-bamboo, gardenia, camellia, hibiscus, and lotus—symbolizing auspiciousness and prosperity. Exquisite craftsmanship reflects the era’s artistry.

Song Dynasty (960–1279 CE)

White-Glazed Floral Tea Cup with Saucer

Tea saucers first appeared during the Southern Dynasties (420–589 CE) and became refined in the Song Dynasty as tea culture flourished. The saucer’s rim was widened and heightened to better secure the cup, preventing spills and enhancing practicality.

This piece features a lightweight, thin body with an integrated cup-saucer design. Its elegant, symmetrical form reflects the stylistic influences of Tang and Song Dynasty gold and silverware, embodying both utility and artistic sophistication.
