The Red Cliff is a rocky promontory along the Yangtze River, named for its sheer, wall-like crimson-hued mountains. Historically, Su Shi (Su Dongpo) and his friends once boated here, a scene also depicted in Wen Zhengming's painting "Red Cliff" shown in this fan leaf.
